Genre Project
Genre 2:
Poem:
We could have had it all
if we lived in a different time.
I loved you,
You loved her
But you’d only met online.
She’s very pretty,
I’ll give her that.
Lucky for you
that she messaged you back.
The world is changing
And so are you.
I guess I’m old fashioned
But I thought love was true.

Process Report
My campaign is entitled Millennials against Internet infidelity and the main purpose is to encourage millennials to not participate in Internet infidelity by presenting to them the facts about how Internet infidelity has been growing and evidence of how it effects people. The three genres that I used to get my point across were a website, a poem, and a video. I chose to do these because I felt like they got the evidence across quickly and simply to my audience. My intended audience is millennials and my unintended audience would be people of other generations who come across my genres. The three genres will appeal to millennials because they are constructed in a way that the information is easily accessible and descriptive so that no further research has to be done by the viewers. While I was creating my three genres I attempted to include all three rhetorical appeals. I used ethos by appealing to my audience’s moral compass by calling to attention how morally wrong it is to cheat on a devoted partner who cares about you. Pathos was inserted when I question how my audience would feel if they were the victim of Internet infidelity. However, I would say that of all the rhetorical appeals I used logos the most in my Project #2 and all three of my genres. Being that Project 2 was a research paper I had a lot of good, academic information to build my three genres on. The process of creating my genres for project 3 was a long and challenging one. I had some practice with creating a website due to my class blog on wix but I had to teach myself how to insert videos and slideshows onto my website genre. Also, when it came to creating my video I had a complicated time. I knew how to use iMovie from a TV Production class I took in high school but it was tough getting the videos from YouTube and downloading them. In addition, it was tough to edit my video and get it down to three minutes.
Once I had my three genres edited and complete it was time to promote them and my entire campaign. I posted my genres on Facebook and Twitter in order to get my audience’s attention. I got many likes and retweets on Twitter. The retweets were really important to me because when my followers retweeted my genres it made it possible for their followers to view my campaign as well. I utilized two social media platforms. Looking back I could have done more if I had time to create accounts for every platform, but I did not so I stuck to my personal followers on Facebook and Twitter. I posted a “#stopinfidelity” hashtag on Twitter and on Facebook when I shared my three genres. I shared them all separately so there were three posts on my Facebook and three on my Twitter. I would say that my most successful avenue was Twitter because I have more followers who were interested in my research seeing as they were during their own research. I didn’t follow any new people on Facebook or Twitter for my campaign because I didn’t create a new Twitter or Facebook account centered around my campaign. Hindsight, I probably could have followed personalities that relate to infidelity so that they could also see my genres and possibly share with their followers. I have promoted these genres for about three weeks through these two outlets. I got an extremely positive response from my followers. They were extremely supportive calling my campaign “very well made” and “a serious issue” that I “portrayed well”. Seeing as I got such a positive and in-depth response I really didn’t feel the need to take any further action to get more responses. I’m glad that I was able to utilize social media networks to promote my campaign. Seeing as my campaign had to do with the negative effects of social media I was happy to use it to promote the stop of Internet infidelity.
Even though project 2 and 3 went hand in hand the two vary in many ways. To complete these two assignments took different tasks. Project two was way less creative than project three. In order to complete project 2 I needed academic, peer-reviewed sources that I used to build my paper around. However, when I composed project 3 I needed a platform to make a website on and a program I could use to make my video. I needed many more tools and programs to make project 3 while all I needed when I created project 2 was a blank word document and 10 sources. Project 3 called for much more creativity. When I started to create project 3 I had to decide what genres I was going to create and how they would affect my audience. The very first step in my project 3 process was to determine my audience. Once I decided that my audience was millennials then it was time to determine which genres to do. Out of all the genres that were suggested I chose a website and video because millennials love quick information. This is one of the reasons that genres such as newspaper and other forms of printed news have become nearly extinct. Because of this I chose digital genres. I would say the most challenging part of project 3 was creating my website and video. The poem came easy to me but it took me days to create my website and even longer to create and finalize my video. I had to relearn how to use iMovie and getting the clips I had to edit into my video was tough. I also had to do a voiceover which took me hours. Looking back before I started project 2, knowing that I was going to have to do project 3, I would make my paper less serious and a bit more laid back. This would have made it easier to make my genres and it would have made it possible for me to make more laid back genres like a Twitter account or an Instagram.

Short Assignment 2
By carrying over sources from Project 2, it will help me to establish ethos in my three genres for project 3. I will pull quotes and facts from my sources to incorporate them into my website, poem, and video to make my genres more credible. I am incorporating six of my ten sources into my project 3 genres. This number does not include my interview with psychologist Judy Chambers which I also plan to incorporate.
The six authors who wrote the articles I will bring over are Smith, Vossler, Whiting Cravens and Leckie, Kruger Fisher and FIizergerald, Gordon Baucom and Snyer, and Vossler and Moller. I have separated these seven sources into 5 subsections of Defining Internet Infidelity, Technology’s part, causes, effects, and tips. These subsections will help me to better organize my data and be able to incorporate it into my genres with ease.
I will use the interview conducted by Travis Smith on Dr. Gerald Weeks to define internet infidelity to my audience. I will also use the article written by Vossler to introduce the activities that I.I. consists of such as cybersex, flirting, lying online, etc. Both sources provide value information that will help me to better explain internet infidelity to my audience.
I will also use the interview with Weeks to explain how technology has provided a “super highway” for people to wander in a relationship. He also explains how invention such as the computer help to facilitate infidelity. In addition to this interview, I will use research done by Whiting, Cravens, and Leckie to establish credibility. This research provides valuable information about how social media and technology lead to the destruction of some relationships.
As far as explaining the reasons some cheat and the impact it has on their loved ones I will use three sources, once again including Dr. Weeks’ interview. The other two sources are research done by Kruger Fisher and Fitzgerald, and Whiting Cravens and Leckie. The first set of research provides facts on the reactions that participants had when discovering infidelity which will help to play on my audience’s pathos by encouraging them to not cheat and make their loved ones feel and experience these emotions. The second source describes statistics about couples who found out about infidelity and how many of those ended in breakups.
Tips on getting past infidelity will be provided by my interview with Judy Chambers, and articles by psychologists; Gordon, Baucom, and Snyder as well as Hertlein and Piercy, and Vossler and Moller. All of these psychologists will help by providing helpful tips about avoiding infidelity in relationships and to get past it if it happens. I will use these tips to brighten the mood of my campaign by stating that if infidelity happens there is hope for the relationship. All the while I will still encourage my audience to avoid it all together and take internet infidelity seriously.
Short Assignment 1
In recent years the world has become more globalized with the creation of the internet. The internet helps people to connect every day from anywhere in the world. This invention has helped commerce and businesses in immense ways. However, for every wonderful invention there are downfalls. One off-putting opportunity that the internet allows is a new type of infidelity entitled ‘internet infidelity’. This type of infidelity is possible due to numerous social media sites. The groups who utilize social media are millennials, and, more recently, generation x-ers. Although the internet is a part of life for most everybody nowadays, and every user is interconnected, infidelity does not have to happen and urging people to avoid the temptations is the message of my campaign. The audience of my campaign is young social media users and the idea is to remind them of the consequences possible if they were to commit internet infidelity in a serious manner while giving them advice on how to avoid committing it altogether. The three genres I will use to get this point across are a poem, website, and video. All three of these will encourage the audience to think twice before they use the internet for any immoral behavior. I do not believe there is any way to make light of this situation so my genres will not be funny and I will use ethos and pathos to connect to my audience. These genres will be successful because they will pull at the heart strings of the audience and call upon them to think before they make any decisions. I will need to be creative and have my computer and the internet handy. It will take me awhile to do all of the creative work that is necessary to create these 3 genres but since the deadlines are soon approaching I will take every opportunity to work on them. The children are the future and I am trying to encourage them to keep it a clean and beautiful future with no sense of impurity to be found.
