My favorite song is If I were a boy by Beyoncé. I love Beyoncé because of her vivacious spirit and the way in which she delivers her songs. If I were a boy came out a while back but its message pertains to generations to come. Essentially, she wrote the song to tell the story of the struggles that girls face in everyday life by juxtaposing them with the “carefree” lifestyles of men. What I find interesting about this song is that although she is telling how women face struggles that men do not, she still does not put down men in anyway.
When it comes to Beyoncé’s audience it is widespread. With followings in rural, urban, and suburban areas it is not difficult for her to get her message out there. The audience, as it pertains to this song, is all women who are struggling and men who do not realize how hard women have it at times. Beyoncé’s followers are young women and this song is mostly directed at them. Her songs are usually very woman power oriented and talk about how girls can play the “games” guys do and are just as worth enjoying life and having fun. This song, however, does not follow that same genre convention with its tone and style that show weakness and vulnerability.
