The society we live in today is so much smaller than it has ever been before. This interconnectivity is due to the mass popularity of the internet. The internet has made it capable for people to connect from all over the world and for consumers to connect with producers. Social media has affiliated the connections between buyer and seller. Of all the social media platforms, Twitter has made communication the easiest. With Twitter, users can easily follow the brands they frequent and get up-to-date information on the companies they love. When it came time for me to pick 5 brands that I frequent, I went through the list of things I do a lot. I eat, I shop, and I wear Jack Rogers sandals every day. Because of my obsession with eating and shopping and wearing sandals I followed Pizza Hut, Chick Fil A, Starbucks, Target, and Jack Rogers. These brands have been known to be very accessible and tend to answer when tweeted at.
Target was the first company to respond to my tweets. The first tweet that I sent out to all was a list of the five companies which I chose to follow. Target responded within the hour and exclaimed “Woo-hoo! We made it. J”. Attached to this response was a gif of feet dancing that was taken from a target advertisement. Target utilized all the genres that go along with a tweet; from the text to the emoji to the gif.
One day later I tweeted at Chick Fil A and said “For Valentine’s Day my dad got me $40 in @chickfila gift cards… I just spent them all… Only 323 more days… Should I count Sundays?” When coming up with what to tweet at them I tried to combine an actual experience I’ve had and add humor to it. I really did spend all my gift cards and am counting down until I get new ones. However, Chick fil a never did get back to me. A little while after I tweeted to Chick Fil A, I was watching TV and saw Target’s new swimsuit campaign. In this campaign they use models who have normal body types and do not photoshop them. They did this to encourage young women to love their bodies and not feel body shamed. After seeing that I tweeted Target and said “I’m in awe of @target new swim suit ads. No photoshop, just real women… I’ve always bought swim suits from target and will still”. I composed this tweet because I want to encourage Target to keep setting a positive example for other companies to follow.
