Twitter Story

Zach Oreshnick’s story was one of the funniest Twitter stories I saw. Most people chose to do a narrative story from the comedic genre in order to catch the attention of the audience and keep them captivated for 10 tweets. Every story I saw on Twitter had me laughing but Zach’s accomplished something the others did not. It had me reminiscing on times when I have played GTA V with boyfriends or guy friends in the past who have been frustrated with the way I play. I have experienced many times guys yelling at me and telling me to “go” and “earn points!” when I play by the rules. I feel as though Zach was telling his girlfriend the opposite; “go slower” or “don’t wreck my lambo” were probably words that came from his mouth. It seems that fifty percent of the boys who play the game care about their belongings and rank in the game and the other fifty percent care about being as wild as they can at every opportunity they get. This game gives them the opportunity to drive nice cars and pick up prostitutes at their own will. In other words, it is a way for men to escape from reality so when a woman plays it, it evokes a humorous response. This game was not at all meant for women to be playing. Similarly, Xbox was not invited with women in mind, so when they try to play they have no idea how the buttons and controls work. Don’t get me wrong, there are some women who take gaming very seriously and I find that empowering and amazing, yet most women do not know how to operate an Xbox. That is where Zach’s story really resonated with me. Like I said, my ex-boyfriend used to get very annoyed when I played GTA V and “played by the rules” or “followed the speed limit”. He would either yell at me or just watch me ruin his game in one play. I felt like that is how Zach felt too which is ultimatly what made me laugh.
