It is hard to say if every book that has ever been turned into a movie is better than the cinematic reconstruction of it. However, most movies that I have seen that were books before are better as books. When one reads a book they are free to interpret characters and events as they wish and when they see the movie then the way the director views the characters is forced upon them. Every individual has different opinions on whether or not a certain film was a good adaption of the book based on if the director’s views parallel with their own. Usually when the audience and the author interpreted the characters in the same way then the movie gets good reviews and is viewed as ‘just as good’ or ‘better’ as the book.

A book that I read that was NOT as good as the movie version was The Notebook. I enjoyed the movie better. Personally, I agreed with the director on how I viewed Noah and Allie’s relationship and the way it was portrayed on the screen was the same as how I viewed it in my head as I read the book. Another reason the movie was just as good as the book, if not better, was that it followed the storyline well and used a lot of direct quotes from the book. When a movie moves too far away from the initial storyline in the book then fans do not like the movie but The Notebook stayed right on script.
