Twitter is used to express many different opinions. It is used by different users for different rhetorical purposes such as to entertain, inform, persuade, etc. The purpose of the website is different for every user depending on what they are trying to accomplish by using the social media platform. Many entertainers and celebrities use the website to promote themselves and their brand. Celebrities I follow such as Kylie Jenner, Seth McFarlane, Kathy Griffin, Freddie Freeman, and Corey Smith use the website to promote their new events, albums, games, etc. They use Twitter to inform and remind. These celebrity’s brands are fun, entertaining, open, and fan-oriented. Twitter is utilized by them to become closer to their fans and communicate their ideals.

Other celebrities use Twitter to inform. These celebrities use ethos and logos to make their tweets authentic and show credibility to their followers. Politicians I follow such as Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders tweet using facts and figures in order to inform their followers and establish credibility. Their brand to the general public is reliable people who inform the country of their opinions and of current events that are happening. Another example of a celebrity I follow who uses ethos in his tweets is Anderson Cooper. As a journalist, his tweets serve more to inform than to persuade others to believe his own opinions which some personalities on Twitter do.

Emma Watson is an example of a celebrity who is not afraid to express her opinions and attempt to persuade her followers to question their own beliefs. She uses pathos to aim at her follower’s feelings. She does this by sharing articles aimed at the inequality between men and women, schooling around the world, global poverty, etc. By sharing these articles/pictures/etc. She has gained a reputation as a global figure for good as well as a famous actress. She uses twitter to promote her views and brand as a UN ambassador and social justice warrior.

Clearly Twitter is used by many different personalities for many different rhetorical purposes.
