The individual I chose to follow on Twitter is Dr. Laura Berman (@DrLauraBerman). She has a master's degree in clinical social work and a doctorate in health education specializing in human sexuality from New York University. She is world renounced and has appeared on the Dr. Oz and the Steve Harvey show. She has appeared on Fox News, CNN and the TODAY Show, as well as in The New York Times, USA Today, and every major woman’s magazine. Her goal is to help her clients build stronger relationships and become as intimate as possible with each other mentally and physically. The article I found that interested me and had to do with my research was a 2013 interview she did with Huffington Post about how social media leads to cheating (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/10/cheating-through-social-media-from-dr-laura-berman-marlo-thomas-mondays-with-marlo_n_3901022.html). In this interview, she talks about the temptations and how to set boundaries when it comes to social media. Her tip is this “If your spouse’s social media habits are making you uncomfortable, speak up! Let your partner know that it’s not appropriate to say or do things online that they wouldn’t be comfortable doing in front of you. They may not be physically cheating, but these acts can be just as hurtful. You don’t need to check up on each other, but be open about passwords and other online activity.”

Her approach to the topic is a fundamental approach and her advice is for before anything physical happens. I was more interested in writing about how it happens and psychologically why people do what they do but her interviews and articles will be good starting research to get me started. Or maybe an end section of my paper that gives tips to make sure infidelity in relationships doesn’t happen as often because of social media.

She tweets a lot about how relationships work and how to make them stronger. I can quote her in my paper and she gives a lot of background education on the topic of relationships from a psychological standpoint. She will be a very good reference point for when I write my paper and I hope she tweets something that pertains to my research soon!
